One Day To Go #ChaBooCha

Wow that month flew past. It’s been a busy one that’s for sure.

March is surely one of the maddest months of the year. There are birthday parties, long weekends, sports days, homework, work, dogs to chase and lots of other things. Of course it has also been Chapter Book Challenge month.

Chapter Book Challenge 2015 Badge sm

I set myself a big challenge this year – a trilogy. I have one day to go and I am not sure I will complete that challenge, but I have achieved something. I have completed the first draft of books one and two. Plus I have made a good start to book three. There is still a long way to go, but one thing is for sure….

I have the writing bug back. Which is great.

This month I have got closer to publishing my fourth book, just waiting on the cover to be completed. There is always something that takes longer than you expect, particularly when you are waiting on other people, but we’ll get there.

Back to writing for me , still have one day to go in the challenge after all. Maybe I can pull an all-nighter and get it done??? Have fun!

Cover Reveal #newbook

This is a very special post for me. It’s to announce my fourth book. This time I have ventured into the world of self publishing. Very soon book number four will be available on Kindle and in print. I still have a few thing to organise so dates will follow shortly. However today I am glad to reveal my front cover….

It’s What You Do Next That Counts
by Ashley Howland

Here’s what it’s all about:
Twelve months ago Callie’s world was turned upside down. Her parents were killed in a plane accident and she had tough decisions to make. Callie chose to move to Perth Australia and live with her Aunt and Uncle. Her older brother Steven, followed, determined to take her back to Vancouver and home.
Callie embarks on a journey of discovery and friendship. In a year that will change her whole outlook on life.
It’s What You Do Next that Counts is full of laughter, tears, good times, hard times, success and failures. It’s a book for all ages about taking steps forward and finding your place in the world.

More news soon on the release, I’m pretty excited about this one. Until then – have fun!

Two Thirds Done #ChaBooCha

It’s the beginning of week three and I have just completed the draft of book two!!!!

So far this month I have written two first drafts, twenty chapters and about 12000 words. There will be lots of editing and there is another draft to go, but I am getting there.

Funnily enough this is the first of my stories that doesn’t have a dog in it. That might change, but at this stage it is dog free. It is full of pirates, adventure, even has someone walking the plank. I’m still working towards a clear ending, but I am not sure on the journey. We’ll get there, hopefully before the month is through!

Writing is one of the best adventures you can go on. Speaking of adventures. My fourth book is getting closer. The cover reveal will be later this week and hopefully will have some more information soon. Back to the writing board for me, have fun!

Plot holes and new ideas #amwriting #ChaBooCha

Writing a book is so much more than putting words on a page.

So I really shouldn’t be surprised that my plot keeps changing as I write. The good news is I believe I have solved my biggest plot hole. I was trying to piece everything together and it just wouldn’t fit. Still I have kept writing because it is only possible to edit if you actually have something to edit. Then bang…

Yep my brain fart happens and the problem is solved!!!! Well I think so, will keep writing and see where it takes me! I am now half way through book two and have a clear picture of how book three will end. Just need to fill in the blanks! So much fun. That’s why I love to write. How’s everyone else going???

Stitch Says: Interviews and Reviews #authorspromotingauthors

Hi, Stitch here,

Stitch and Tug

I’ve been chasing my brother Tug around the park and now it’s time to get reading. So if you have a children’s book and would like it reviewed or are an author and would like an interview then here’s what you do…
1. Contact my human at
2. Provide a copy of the book (Print, Mobi or PDF)
3. Answer the questions sent
4. Share and enjoy your post

Easy. I am currently reading a few children’s books, but the more I run the more I need to rest and that means reading.

It takes my mind of dinner time… Would love to hear from you soon. Keep reading, keep writing!

Chapter Book Challenge Update #ChaBooCha

I have completed the draft of book one and am into chapter three of book two. These stories still don’t actually have names… well not ones I ma completely happy with. The Trilogy will be called:

Pieces of Eight

I would love some pirate ideas for titles. The series is about finding the pieces of eight and regaining a lost family. To make things short.

Right I need to get back to writing. Must admit it’s difficult, especially with all the distractions of life and dogs…

That would be Stitch with his cuddles… Gotta love him. HAVE FUN!

Chewie’s News Book Blast: The best ideas #growingupwithbooks

Hi it’s Chewie,

Chewie web

You might have guessed that I like to get up to mischief. Well it’s not really my fault. It’s because the girls read so much to me:

See what good stories do… Yep my excuse and I’m sticking to it! More book blasts coming soon. Keep reading, keep writing!

Ideas come at the wrong time #lifeofawriter #ChaBooCha

I am writing my chapter book trilogy for the Chapter Book Challenge and moving along pretty well. I have the first draft of book one and have just put down chapter one of book two. I also have a plan, which will be completely changed by the end, but it’s a plan.

Yep I’m jumping for joy at how well things are going. I’ve had a few distractions along the way. My big kid turned eight. So there have been cakes to make…

2015-03-06 13.54.32

Parties, zoo visits and catching up with family have also distracted me. However there is another more serious problem. All these things have given me more story ideas.

We have begun to make our fairy garden and I just realised this would be perfect for the series I have begun for my girls. So that’s basically seven books right there that are burning in my brain. Then of course Miss birthday girl decided to meet some lemurs as her present… enter another story. Not to mention my little kid has bought herself another Orangutan toy… story idea!!! All right when I am n the middle of my writing month. Not to mention all the editing I need to do, plus I am hopefully releasing book number four this month…

I need to cover my eyes, keep the ideas but get focused. I have so much more to do…

It’s actually an awesome situation to be in. I have enough writing to keep me busy and the ideas are flowing. Best get back to it. I hope all my fellow Chapter Book Challenge people are having the same problem!!! Regardless remember to always HAVE FUN!

Draft complete #ChaBooCha #amwriting

Chapter Book Challenge 2015 Badge sm

I have completed a very raw draft of book one in my Pirate trilogy – Pieces of Eight. Its ten chapters and about 6400 words. I’m pretty happy with that so far this month. Of course the story had twisted and turned that many times I’m not actually sure it makes sense. I also don’t have a title for the actual book, but I have a draft. That is what is important this month anyway. I can worry about the details later.

I am pretty sure my story will undergo major surgery eventually, after all that’s what I am doing with last year’s challenge stories. Still it feels good to have the first draft of book one complete – on to book 2! Have fun!!!

Stitch Says Author Interview: Jennifer Kelman #childrensauthor

Hi Stitch here:

Beach Stitch

We all know how much I love the beach, well one of the reasons is the other animals. We have seen seals surfing and dolphins diving! Today I bring you and author who has written a book about a dolphin. Let’s meet Jennifer Kelman

What is the title of your book? The Disappearing Dolphins

What is your book about?
A lovely tale of young twins on a “usual” trip to the beach. Today was different; Kevin’s great imagination was playing tricks on him, or was it? He believed that each time he looked up he saw beautiful dolphins springing into the air. He nudged his twin sister, Jackie, in the hope she would see it too, but each time she looked up, they were gone. Was Kevin left wondering? No, at the perfect moment, Jackie looked up to see the most wonderful sight…..five graceful dolphins shining in delight. The adventure continues as they board a boat and feed the dolphins. The tale is about imagination, trust, the sibling (twin) relationship and sticking to your beliefs. The illustrations bring this story to life and capture the beauty and wonderment of children and nature.

It sounds great, we are waiting for a copy to review. The kids are really excited!

Why did you decide to write it?
This story came tumbling from me after a few weeks of my twins being sick. Not feeling particularly creative, I began to weave this story and was truly surprised as I watched my kids begin to feel refreshed and happy. It was at that moment that we all decided together to make the story of The Disappearing Dolphins into a book.

Stories have magical powers!

How did you get your book published?
I am so happy to have had the pleasure to work with Outskirts Press. They have done a spectacular job in bringing it all to fruition.

What types of readers will be interested in your book?
This is a great story for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and teachers to read to their kids. Using fun and silly intonations while reading aloud, the listener can appreciate the frustration in Jackie and the desire in Kevin. This book appeals to 4-6 year olds and maybe a bit older as they read the book to themselves.

Miss 8 and Miss 6 can’t wait!

What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?
The book is special because of the subtle messages…believe in yourself, imagine and it can be, the sibling (twin) relationship and the love of nature. It is special because the story is woven in such a way that highlights all of these aspects. The reader remains engaged and isn’t exactly sure if Jackie will ever see The Disappearing Dolphins. I believe that the illustrations by Michael Swaim, set this book apart from others. His gift is unparalleled.

I am also in the process of co-writing a song, The Disappearing Dolphins, which will be available on ITunes, to complement the book. This song, a catchy, sing-a-long, is certain to stay stuck in your head all day long.

We love those songs. That’s a really great way to add to your book!

Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?
This is my 3rd book. My first two belong to the Mrs. Pinkelmeyer book series.
I created two children’s characters; Mrs. Pinkelmeyer® and her lovable dog, Moopus McGlinden®. Together, they inspire self-esteem in children through their love, warmth and silliness. I have also created a full product line including a plush doll, a Moopus McGlinden stuffed animal, a music CD and 2 books. Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden Burn the Rrrrump Rrrroast and Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden Prance into New York City. Available on and

I will continue to write and publish more books when the light of creativity strikes again.

Sounds like a great plan!

Thanks for joining us here on Stitch Says. We look forwards to reading your book soon. If you want to know more about Jennifer and her books go to:
